Mariah, Artistic Director

Mariah began her dance training, at two and one-half years of age in Atlanta, Ga and continued training in Jacksonville until she moved to Boston to focus on training with Boston Ballet and later performing with Commonwealth Civic Ballet. Her favorite roles as a youth include Clara, in The Nutcracker produced in conjunction with the Jacksonville Symphony and Midsummer’s Night Dream with Charleston Ballet.  Mariah also enjoyed being a member of a championship competition dance team and studying and performing in community theatre with Ian Mears and Sally Deming as a member of Jacksonville Actors Theatre.   She attended Douglas Anderson School of the Arts where she was a member of Dance Theatre and Tap Ensemble.  She completed high school in Massachusetts after being invited to join Boston Ballet’s training and performing programs.  She was asked to join Commonwealth Civic Ballet, a new professional company, by one of her mentors at Boston Ballet who was a founder of CCB.  Mariah danced several featured roles as a soloist with CCB, ranging from classical ballet to guest choreographer set contemporary pieces.

During Mariah’s extensive dance training, she was fortunate to be able to study and perform with several renowned ballet companies including New York City Ballet and The Royal Ballet in London. She also enjoyed the privilege of taking classes with esteemed choreographers such as Martha Graham, David Storey, David Howard, Damian Woetzel, Darcy Kistler, Melinda Roy, Jacques D’Ambrois, Mia Michaels, Elaine Bauer, Frank Hachett and Mikhail Baryshnikov.  During college, Mariah was a cheerleader and a member of the dance team while earning a B.S. with Honors in Communications with a focus on broadcasting.  When she competed for the title of Miss North Carolina, her lightning fast tap number was a showstopper, especially for those who thought of her only as a “ballerina”.

Mariah’s focus on training dancers is in ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, lyrical, musical theatre, and conditioning with emphasis on strengthening a dancer’s core for maximum support and execution of movements, and endurance.   She also coaches for auditions, pageants and talent events, as well as for solo, duo, trio and group competitions. She coaches privately and groups, in person and via live online platforms.
